Handcrafted to Perfection
Creating Beautiful Woven Baskets

A Passion in Basket Making

Lynn Art Basketry started in the early 1980s. My primary interest in rib baskets has grown my passion for arts and crafts through the years of teaching and selling them in New England.

My Basket Collection

I incorporate different materials in my artwork, such as seagrass, cane, jute fiber, and flat and round reed. At times, I even use colored reed mixed in with a natural one. For the handles, I like to use grapevine and honeysuckle. It allows the natural bends and curves to dictate the final basket.

Just recently, I started using other natural materials as the foundation of my rib baskets. My works are a mix of traditional, contemporary, and sometimes, sculptural styles. Some are in a more classic form, like the egg, hen, and potato baskets. Every design depends on the natural product used to form the base of the basket. The final basket frequently evolves as I work and does not start with a preconceived idea.

About Lynn

In 1981, I first learned to make baskets at a one-day workshop at Hopkinton, Massachusetts. The egg basket I made hooked me on the craft. Over the years, I taught myself to create different kinds of baskets through reading books. I shared these experiences in private classes until I moved to Bedford, New Hampshire, in 1983.

I began basketry as my primary craft in teaching and started selling my work whenever possible after moving. It was fortunate for me to have The Bedford Craftworkers Guild sponsor some of my classes. During this time, I also began teaching children how to weave baskets at Interlocken at Windsor Mountain summer camp in Hillsboro.

Fast forward to 2000, unaware of all the basket weavers and guilds that existed around me, I came to know Rivercane Weavers and Lynn Anne Trask in Merrimack. With their assistance, I spent a couple of years learning new techniques, finding tools that were available to basketry, and knowing about all the basket makers that were around in the New England area. My knowledge in the basketwork increased with Ruth Boland helping me study in her studio in Nashua.

I joined the Northeast Basketweavers Guild and went to the Stowe Basketry Festival. It was very inspiring to see the variety of baskets produced. I was selected to join the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen in 2004 and continue to be active in the annual Craftsmen’s Fair at Sunapee Resort each year. Up to the present day, I am also a member of the National Basketry Organization and the North Carolina Basketmakers Association.
